South Johnson Street
Over winter break, I left Boston for a couple weeks and returned to visit family and friends in Virginia. This image is based off a photo looking down S Johnson Street toward Downtown and the Wharf. I carved the block in direct reference to the photograph without bothering to mirror the image, since I decided not to include any cars (they’d be driving on the left) or much lettering. For fun, here’s my original photograph below, so you can see what leaps of imagination and editing occur during the printing and painting process. My colors are not subtle in this one!
