The Pearl Crescent is, according to the Golden Guide Butterflies and Moths: A Guide to the More Common American Species, one of the “most common” butterflies in North America.  The Pearl Crescent can be found fluttering around puddles everywhere it seems, except for the Pacific Coast.  As I have never been to the Pacific Coast myself, I feel a certain bond with this creature, as if we have the same goals and limitations… Coincidentally, it was the lovely little illustration in the Golden Guide that inspired this print. Turns out, the illustrations were done by André Durenceau, a fantastic Art Deco artist whom you should search on the googledy webs (although, fair warning, some of his work is really odd).
